The Accountants for Growth

The James Stanley Globetrotters conquered the 13 mile Staffordshire Roaches Challenge in just 6 hours and 20 minutes!

What is this all about?

As a practice James, Stanley & Co is committed in promoting sustainability and giving back to the community. As testament to this, we are extremely proud to be members of “Accountants Changing The World” and “B1G1”.

One such organisation we support is St Basils who in turn fund, support and care for thousands of homeless young people across the West Midlands. As part of St Basils fundraising they coordinate an annual expedition across different areas of natural beauty involving over 100 teams and 600 individuals. This year was James, Stanley & Co’s third voyage, and one we will not forget…..

The Staffordshire Roaches

On 6th June two teams from James, Stanley & Co set off from Westwood College in Leek at the unsociable time of 7.35am with the sole aim of completing the half marathon across The Peak District.

With nothing more than a map we quickly left the quiet town of Leek and headed into the wilderness encountering tall grass, hilly trails and the ever present groans of disgruntled cattle.

By 10am we had reached halfway! After a quick drink, chocolate bar and a team photo we marched on, feeling rather smug about the ease of this trail. Oh how we rued that sentiment….

For the final 6 miles we endured sharp inclines, a hidden forest trail and bogs. The teams’ morale started to strain with ever more frequent wrong turns and indecisions. Finally at 1.15pm will arrived at the final Check Point before the Finish Line, and whilst taking on fluid and the fifth chocolate bar of the day we took solace that the end was in sight.

At 1.55pm we staggered over the finish line, arriving back at the college to the sound of cheers from the volunteers at St Basils.

Our experience

It was during the well-deserved post walk meal that we reflected on our achievement and most importantly the cause that we support. Every year this event has been a totally rewarding and enriching day out; bringing together individuals from all 'walks' of life to come together, enjoy the beautiful countryside and in turn support a charity that gives so much to those in need.

Special thanks goes to our walkers who took part; Andrew James, Sue Blackledge, Chandni Jogia, Dawn Price, Mark James, Sophie Wilkins, Devaney Werrin, Andrew Batch, Rev. Graeme Richardson and Dale Harris.

As a charity St Basils target is to raise £80,000 from The Staffordshire Roaches Challenge, and our contribution towards achieving that goal is to donate £1,000 this year. With over £750 raised already invite you to help us on that journey by donating whatever you can. Donating could not be simpler, please just use this website
